Squeaky Bean® makes a splash with the launch of its first fish alternatives

Our brand Squeaky Bean, famous for its category leading ready to eat meat alternatives, is continuing to innovate in the plant-based category with the launch of its first ever fish alternatives – vegan smoked salmon style slices and tuna style flakes.

The new ready to eat Beechwood Smoked Salmon Style Slices will be the first vegan smoked salmon style slices to be available in major retailers. Smoked naturally using beechwood chips to create a subtle, smoky flavour and an authentic aroma, the slices are made to a unique recipe, giving them the same marbled appearance as smoked salmon.

The Tuna Style Flakes have been designed to perfectly replicate the distinctive taste and texture of tuna and are high in protein and a rich source of Omega 3. Both products are ready to eat, made from 100% plant-based ingredients and low in saturated fat, making them an ideal choice for health-conscious flexitarians, vegans and vegetarians.

The launches follow an increase in consumer demand for great tasting fish alternatives, with many consumers saying there are limited fish options in the plant-based category [1]. Squeaky Bean is looking to fill this gap, by providing authentic alternatives for two of the ‘big five’ species that account for 60 – 80% of seafood eaten in the UK [2].

Squeaky Bean Beechwood Smoked Salmon Style Slices 80g (RRP £3.50) will be available in Waitrose from 20th September 2023 and Sainsbury’s from 27th September 2023.

Squeaky Bean Tuna Style Flakes 120g (RRP £3.25) will be available in Sainsbury’s from 27th September 2023.

Ready to eat straight from the pack, both products are versatile and can be used in a wide range of dishes. The smoked salmon style slices can be used to recreate vegan versions of popular recipes like smashed avocado and smoked salmon on toast or blinis, with the tuna style flakes being perfect for salads, pastas, and sandwiches.

Becky Youseman, Marketing Controller at Squeaky Bean, which is part of The Compleat Food Group, said: “We’re on a mission at Squeaky Bean to create great tasting plant-based alternatives that everyone can enjoy, whether they are a vegan, vegetarian or trying to reduce the amount of meat or fish in their diet.

“Eating fish is a popular diet choice because of its health benefits, but as consumers become more concerned over the health of our oceans, we’ve noticed a rise in demand for good quality fish alternatives. Combine this with the number of vegans and vegetarians saying they miss eating fish, we spotted a natural gap in the plant-based category.

“This is why we’ve created Squeaky Bean’s first ever fish products with our Beechwood Smoked Salmon Style Slices and Tuna Style Flakes, which genuinely taste and look like the real thing. With there being very little innovation in plant-based fish to date, we’re proud to lead the way by launching a great tasting vegan tuna alternative and what will be the first vegan smoked salmon style slices to be available in major retailers.”
