Squeaky Bean makes move into plant-based meal kits and minis range

Squeaky Bean, famous for its category leading ready to eat meat alternatives, is launching a meal kit and a meat-alternative snack range, to add even more delicious choice to the plant-based category.

The new products include a Hoisin Duck Style Pancakes Meal Kit and a dinky snacks range, including Southern Fried Straws, Duck and Hoisin Style Bites and BBQ Pork Style Rolls, which provide tasty alternatives to traditional meat-based snacks.

Both have been developed following consumer research which identified a clear demand and a gap in the market and will be in selected Tesco stores and available online from 13th May.

Squeaky Bean’s Hoisin Duck Style Pancakes Meal Kit was created in response to the 62% of plant-based shoppers who said they would buy a meat-free duck style meal kit from Squeaky Bean.

Designed to serve two people, the Hoisin Duck Style Pancakes Meal Kit includes Squeaky Bean’s Duck Style Pieces, an ingredient that perfectly mimics the taste and texture of its meat equivalent and has already proven popular in dishes at YO! Sushi, alongside six pancakes and Hoisin sauce. Shoppers can now enjoy the restaurant-quality meal at home, as a quick and easy lunch or midweek dinner, or as a ‘fakeaway’ at the weekend, cooked up in just three minutes.

Squeaky Bean’s development of its ready to eat dinky range is supported by the 50% of consumers who have reported that they are trying to eat more plant-based snacks {2}.  It offers plant-based versions of well-loved meat snacks, including Southern Fried Straws, Duck and Hoisin Style Bites and BBQ Pork Style Rolls, tapping into the growing trend for picky tea and snacking occasions.

Made from wheat and pea protein, Squeaky Bean’s Southern Fried Straws include plant-based pieces which are coated in crunchy breadcrumbs and seasoned with a delicious blend of herbs and spices. Its Duck and Hoisin Style Bites combine Squeaky Bean’s irresistible duck style pieces with a seasoning of five Chinese spices, dipped in traditional Hoisin sauce and encased in crispy golden breadcrumbs.

Completing the trio is BBQ Pork Style Rolls, a modern take on a British staple, made up of a light puff pastry stuffed with Squeaky Bean pork style pieces and expertly seasoned with a unique smoky blend of herbs including smoked paprika and cayenne pepper.

The range is entirely plant-based, a source of fibre and can be enjoyed hot or cold. They come in transportable and recyclable containers, making them convenient options for picnics and snacking, as well as part of lunch or evening meals.

Squeaky Bean Hoisin Duck Style Pancakes Meal Kit (200g, RRP £4.00) and Squeaky Bean dinky range including Southern Fried Straws, Duck and Hoisin Style Bites and BBQ Pork Style Rolls (all 180g, RRP £3.00) are available in selected Tesco stores and online from 13th May 2024.

Becky Youseman, Marketing Controller at Squeaky Bean, which is part of The Compleat Food Group, said: “As the number one brand in ready-to-eat plant-based pieces, we’re experts in creating amazing meat-alternatives that are not only convenient, but taste just as good, if not better, than their meat counterparts.

“This is why, when we spotted demand for both meal kits and plant-based snacks, we knew we could use our expertise to add value to the category and bring excitement to more eating occasions, from picnics to fakeaways. We’re thrilled to launch these new products, making it even easier for people to enjoy plant-based and choosing it because they love it, not because they have to.”
