We’re passionate about helping more young people start a career in the food industry and one of the ways we do this is through our apprenticeship scheme.
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2023, we’re shining spotlights on some of our fantastic apprentices. We’ve already introduced our Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprentice Byron Meikle, and this time we’ve spoken to Morgan Broadhurst and Callum Blase.
Morgan and Callum are currently undertaking their Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship here at Compleat. We find out about their apprenticeship journeys so far…
How did your apprenticeship begin?
M: Lots of my family actually work in engineering and I had previously had the opportunity to do some work experience with them. I really enjoyed it so when I saw this apprenticeship, I knew I had to apply.
C: I’d been researching apprenticeships for a while and when I saw the apprenticeship role come up at Compleat, I thought it looked perfect! I was keen to get stuck in as you get the benefit of having a good education with the added bonus of earning at the same time.
What does an average day look like?
C: I work alongside my mentor to assist in a range of jobs, including fixing and re-building machinery.
M: I do lots of tasks with the corrective team. This includes identifying bearing failures and finding components that need replacing in machinery.
What’s your favourite thing about the role?
C: For me, it’s the brilliant team of engineers I get to work with at Compleat. My colleagues are fantastic to work with and they’re experts in their fields, so every day I’m experiencing something new.
M: My favourite part is that I’m always learning new skills and gaining experience. It’s great fun working with the engineering team to overcome any problems that we face together. All of my colleagues at Compleat have been really supportive throughout my apprenticeship.
Any advice to others?
C: As an apprentice, you get to opportunity to learn new skills at college, whilst also learning from people with years of experience and knowledge. Take advantage of that privilege and learn new skills with their help.
M: My advice for anyone who’s doing an apprenticeship, would be to push yourself out of your comfort zone, take the opportunity to make new friends and most of all, have fun whilst learning!
